Zhu Xiuping is the chief physician (class 1), professor, founder of Shaanxi Institute of Ophthalmology and Xi'an Eye Hospital, first dean of Xi'an Eye Hospital and academic leader. She is now the director of Shaanxi Institute of Ophthalmology, honorary dean of Xi'an Eye Hospital, consultant of Shaanxi Ophthalmological Society, honorary Chairman of Xi'an Institute of Ophthalmology, committee member of Blindness Prevention Steering Group of the National Ministry of Health, vice chairman of China Eye Bank Association, National Outstanding Contribution Expert and National Model Worker, enjoying special government allowances of the State Council, and winning the national "March 8th" red-banner holder, and 2007 National Award of Chinese Ophthalmological Society. She has been a committee member of Chinese Cornea Group for more than 20 years and engaged in the clinical and fundamental research efforts on ceratonosus and ocular surface diseases. She has great scholar achievements in terms of corneal transplant, intraocular inflammation and especially viral intraocular inflammation. In recent years, she has also obtained certain achievements in terms of dry eye. She has published more than 50 papers in national core journals, and five publications as the first-author and a co-author; gained more than 20 Scientific and Technological Achievements and Science and Technology Progress Awards of ministerial, provincial and municipal level.
The Xi'an Eye Hospital is affiliated to Xi'an NO.1 Hospital. It is a modern ophthalmological hospital and hosts the medical key subjects of Shaanxi Providence and Xi'an City. It has the ophthalmological teaching and research office and the clinical post-graduate teaching point. The Shaanxi Institute of Ophthalmology under the direct instruction of Shaanxi Science and Technology Bureau and the ophthalmological key laboratory of Shaanxi Providence are also hosted by Xi'an NO.1 Hospital. For many years, thanks to the unremitting efforts of all the researchers and medical staff, the eye hospital has established an advanced medical model which combines the clinical diagnosis and treatment and the fundamental researches making the hospital to be a ophthalmology center integrating medical treatment, teaching and research. The eye hospital has obtained the honor titles of "National Patient Satisfying Service Organization", "Cataract Regaining Operation Center of Shaanxi Providence and Xi'an City", "Advanced Collective of National Handicapped Three-Rehabilitation Work", "Shaanxi Featured Medical Treatment Specialty". The Eye Hospital now has 6 professors, 17 chief physicians, 30 staff with the senior job titles, 50 staff with the Ph.D. and master degrees, and 8 specialized teams, each having the academic leaders and backing academic leaders for the purpose of formation of personnel echelon. The ophthalmology department has six wards and 200 beds. There are 5 clean operating rooms of Class 100 and Class 1000. The Eye Hospital outpatient number exceed 150,000 per year, and the operation number is about ten thousand cases per year. The cumulative corneal transplantation carried out in our hospital has exceeded 8000 cases, ranking high among Chinese hospitals. Eye Hospital owns the advanced domestic and imported medical devices, such as corneal confocal microscopy, optical coherence tomography (OCT), ultrasound biological microscope (UBM), Veris multifocal electrophysiology, United States Alcon Infiniti phacoemulsification instrument, Germany Zeiss operating microscopes, United States Bausch & Lomb minimally invasive vitrectomy machine, the ophthalmic lasers of various wavelengths, the retinal and choroidal angiography instruments, the test equipment for the pharmacy, molecular biology, cell engineering, immunology and other fundamental tests, and the world's most advanced corneal crosslinking treatment instrument.
